ICC Cricket World Cup: Final And Semi-Final Tickets To Be Sold Through Ballot

ICC Chief Executive Mr. Haroon Lorgat announced today that the tickets for the finale and semi-finals of the world cup will be distributed through a ballot system that shall be channelized through ICC’s official ticket partner www.kyazoonga.com.

Earlier when the ICC had decided to sell the 4000 odd tickets for each of the matches through kyazoonga .com the number of people wanting the tickets were so many that the site crashed in a matter of few minutes from the time the tickets started selling.

The semi-finals are going to be played on 29th in Colombo and on the 30th in Mohali, while the finals are going to be played in Wankhede on the 2nd of April.  The ballot will start on the 28th February (Monday).

ICC Chief Executive Mr. Lorgat said: “It was most unfortunate and no blame should be directed at Kyazoonga, the ICC’s official ticketing partner, as no one could have anticipated that tens of millions people would be trying to access the site an hour before it went live. In truth Kyazoonga have been an innocent third party in all the issues we have had with ticketing.

“In conjunction with the hosts, we have now agreed that a ballot system is the best means of releasing any available tickets for the semis and final. The high demand clearly proves the massive attraction of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and format of 50 overs cricket.”

In dismissing media perceptions about a letter addressed to ICC President Mr. Sharad Pawar, Mr. Lorgat added: “To help resolve our ticketing challenges we have also engaged the offices of the ICC President Mr. Pawar to assist us as he has done with several other issues related to World Cup planning.”

The tickets selling process can be summarized in six steps:

Step 1: You can apply for the ICC CWC Ticket Public Ballot from the 28th February to the 6th March. The public ballot application form is to be filled in at http://cwc2011ballot.kyazoonga.com. Only two tickets per applicant is allowed and only one application per person shall be considered. In case you do fill up another application the second application shall be automatically avoided.

Step 2: You will receive a Ballot Confirmation Number once you complete and submit your application form. No upfront payment is required at this stage.

Step 3: Try to follow all the instructions and rules myopically. If you break any of the rules then the tickets offered to you shall be immediately cancelled. All Ballot applications must be submitted no later than 6 March 2011.

Step 4: The draw will be made by computer on 10 March 2011 and successful applicants will be informed by email on 11 March 2011. If you have not heard from Kyazoonga by 12 March 2011, please assume that your application was not successful in the ballot.

Step 5: Successful applicants will be able to pay for their tickets through Kyazoonga’s secure payment processing website where they will be shown the transaction amount and asked to pay online using credit card/debit card/net-banking. If your transaction is not successful, your place in the draw will be offered to the next polled applicant from the draw.

Step 6: Upon successful payment completion, you will receive a confirmation page and email. Please print the page and keep the email. You will receive your tickets from the third week of March 2011.

England v South Africa - live!

3rd over: England 8-2 (Trott 3, Bell 2) Trott is beaten by a brute from Peterson that turns appreciably off middle stump. The problem, as Nasser points out on Sky, is that some balls are turning and others aren't. It's close to a spinners' paradise, this, and that's a maiden from Peterson. "One of the cinema scenes which most upsets me – because I'm squeamish – is when they have to break the goalie's arm in Escape to Victory to allow Sylvester Stallone into the team," says James Wrout. "Despite my distaste, surely it's now time for Colly or Luke Wright to take one for the entire country so Eoin Morgan can be flown out as a replacement. But what -less squeam-inducing - injury? Maybe Wright would have a nasty scolding from the hot drinks he's carrying, or Colly could be diagnosed with a late-onset allergy to willow (he's certainly can't hold it for any length of time any more). Any thoughts?" I don't think England should do it, as it's blatantly against the spirit of the game, but it is so frustrating to have their best player at home watching Alex Jones and Steve Jones on BBC1 when he should be demonstrating his genius. It's a balls up that might come to be seen as indicative of a fuzzy-headed campaign. England look tired, almost as tired as Billy Bob in A Simple Plan. It's hard to be too critical of them.

2nd over: England 8-2 (Trott 3, Bell 2) So we don't get to see Steyn v Pietersen, which was one of the highlights of the World Twenty20, when Pietersen belaboured 23 from 8 balls. Instead Steyn has Trott in his sights. There is a bit of swing for Steyn, and Trott gets off the mark with a nice drive for two. "Looking forward to the OBO on Pietersen's hernia op," says Ian Copestake. "Should be a thriller." I wouldn't mind an expletive-by-expletive report of the England dressing room right now.

1st over: England 3-2 (Trott 0, Bell 0) Nasser Hussain says that Andrew Strauss "played a Bangalore shot". That pitch was a belter, but this is an old-fashioned Indian slow turner. "Ah," says Jonah Gadsby. "You're there. I've been here five hours now, waiting for this match to start." I would suggest going to bed.

WICKET! England 3-2 (Pietersen c Kallis b Peterson 2) Pietersen has gone as well! This is an astonishing start. Pietersen pushed forward at the last ball of Peterson's first over, which turned enough to take the edge on its way to Kallis at slip. Madon, what a start. South Africa are going mental. That was a nice catch, right by his left boot, and yet another left-arm spinner has dismissed Pietersen. They are his Kryptonite. I'm not sure who got Pietersen out there: Peterson or Pietersen. That was a nothing shot.

WICKET! England 1-1 (Strauss c de Villiers b Peterson 0) I don't believe it. For the second time in the tournament, South Africa open the bowling with a spinner and strike in the first over. Andrew Strauss came down the track to Robin Peterson and tried to drive him over mid on, but it turned a bit and he dragged the shot to deep midwicket, where AB de Villiers took an excellent tumbling catch. Johan Botha got Chris Gayle in the West Indies match and now Strauss has fallen to Peterson. That is a massive blow for England.

So what's a good score? After the Ireland game, England will probably want 700 to feel comfortable, or at least quietly confident.

"Morning Rob," says Andy Bull. "It is hot here in Chennai. Outrageously hot. So hot, as Ricky Roma put it, that grown men were walking up to cops on street corners begging them to shoot them. Not in our air-conditioned press box though, obviously. Bopara in for Collingwood, they say. Colly out doing throwdowns for KP, like the true team man he is."

Andrew Strauss said that the decision is partly down to form and partly down to injury, which was unusually woolly for him. Still, at least he didn't say it was by mutual consent.

England have won the toss and will bat first. That's a bit of a surprise. As is the inclusion of Ravi Bopara ahead of Paul Collingwood. That's England's only change; South Africa are unchanged. They look ominously comfortable in their own skin just now.

England Strauss (c), Pietersen, Trott, Bell, Prior (wk), Bopara, Yardy, Bresnan, Swann, Broad, Anderson.

South Africa Smith (c), Amla, Kallis, de Villiers, Duminy, du Plessis, van Wyk (wk), Peterson, Morkel, Steyn, Tahir.

When we think of England v South Africa at the World Cup, we inevitably think of 1992: 21 off one ball and that ostentatious England supporter with the fag on. Yet since then England have been the subject of three vicious beatings, each more emphatic than the last. Don't rule out another one today.

So, let's try that one again. England will certainly want to. They've had such a downright weird start to this tournament that they probably want to scrub the tape and start afresh. In a sense, they can: they just have to win six games in a row to win the tournament. Which is not unlike last year's World Twenty20 when, after a dodgy start, they won five in a row in increasingly emphatic style.

Actually, England don't necessarily need to win this match to qualify. Their three remaining group games are against South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies; and, while they need to win all three to guarantee qualification, they could go through with just one win. It's all a little confusing, so it's bet to forget the permutations and start playing like cornered lions.

Live World Cup Cricket: South Africa v England

In a few minutes South Africa and England go toe to toe in the 21st Cricket Match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. For England, facing South Africa at this juncture, simply has to seem seem an ominous task. England, fresh of a humiliating loss to neighboring Ireland, is up against a team that just demolished the Netherlands by 231 runs. Talk about two ships passing headed in opposite directions.

So far in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has given England no breaks. Meanwhile South Africa is enjoying one of the best seam attacks in all World Cup play, a 5 game winning streak attests to this. And now it is do or die time for England, and it could not have come to this against a tougher opponent (we said that already). But seriously, if England is to keep any hope of a semi-final appearance alive, they simply must win this one – without a win today, England’s fate is on other team’s hands.
It Is What It Is – A Must Win for England

For this match, a whole lot of analysis is not really necessary. South Africa is on a roll, and their balance looks as good as anyone’s. As for England, everyone knows they can bring it to a big game like this – but frankly, they could not bowl their way out of a wet paper bag so far in the World Cup. I know that’s blunt, but it’s also true. England has given up 956 runs so far. 292 of those were allowed the Netherlands, another 338 to India (more like India took them), and  329 were spanked in by Ireland. Put it this way, Australia could not beat almost anyone giving over those kinds of numbers.

So, England is going to have to turn over a new leaf from the toss today. For those of you who have not hooked up with a good online feed to watch the game via, we have found a few streams, some of which are quite good (considering they are free).  As for the match, we will update this article as the game unfolds. Despited our criticism of England, everyone really expects and exciting one from Chennai. The two squads for today’s match are listed below the feeds.

England v South Africa: Ravi Bopara to replace Paul Collingwood in Cricket World Cup Group B match

Bopara’s strokeplay and medium pace is seen as the ideal replacement for Collingwood who has struggled for form throughout this winter.

Collingwood has also been troubled by knee problems this week as a winter on the road takes its toll on the England team. Collingwood remains an important member of the England squad but unless there are further injuries, or Bopara fails to take his chance, it is hard to see the 34-year-old forcing his way back into the team.

Collingwood announced his retirement from Test cricket at the end of the Ashes series but said he wanted to continue his career as a one day player.

He made a useful 30 not out against Holland in the opening match of the World Cup but was dismissed fifth ball against India and struggled to 16 in the match with Ireland as his patchy form continued. His medium pace off cutters have been expensive too and England have decided to act with their World Cup future on the line.

This has been a difficult tournament for England and yesterday there troubles increased with the news that Kevin Pietersen will play the rest of the World Cup nursing the pain from a hernia injury which will require an operation when he returns home from the tournament.

Surgery will rule Pietersen out of the Indian Premier League tournament, which is due to begin six days after the World Cup final on April 2, but he is expected to be fit in time for the first Test match of next summer against Sri Lanka in Cardiff on May 26.

The injury was diagnosed during the three day window between the players returning from Australia and departing for the World Cup. The problem has worsened in recent days and Pietersen spent a significant part of the Ireland innings on Wednesday receiving treatment.

The England management believe the hernia injury can be controlled during the rest of the tournament but any deterioration will be a major worry with Pietersen crucial to the side’s batting line-up following the loss of Eoin Morgan to a broken finger.

“The nature of the injury is such that it can be managed for the duration of the World Cup,” said Nick Peirce, the England team doctor.

“As the symptoms have been getting worse a decision has now been made that the appropriate course of action is for Kevin to undergo a routine operation upon his return to the UK after England's World Cup campaign.

"Kevin will continue to be managed throughout the World Cup and we would expect him to make a full recovery following a recuperation and rehabilitation period of approximately six weeks after the operation.”

Pietersen was the highest paid cricketer at last season’s IPL with a $1.5m contract with the Bangalore Royal Challengers but was bought by the Deccan Chargers for a cut price $600,000 when all the players were resold at an auction in January.

Pietersen will now miss out on his IPL fee but the England management will be secretly relieved he will be forced to rest before a busy summer of Test cricket against Sri Lanka and India, the world’s number one ranked team.

“I'm obviously extremely disappointed to have picked up this hernia injury but I've been able to manage it so far throughout the World Cup and will continue to do so under the guidance of the England team's medical staff,” said Pietersen. “It will no doubt impact my preparation but careful management should see me still play a significant role in the team's campaign.”

Pietersen has twice denied reports that he will retire from 50 over cricket at the end of this tournament but his latest injury will increase speculation that he will look to cut his workload. It is his second serious injury in two and half years following an Achilles problem which required surgery and ruled him out of the majority of the 2009 Ashes series.

The match was played at the Chennai , of England .kickoff 6-3-2011. South Africa have looked very comfortable and settled units in the both matches they played in the tournament so far easily getting past their opponents, West Indies and Netherlands.

England batsmen, on the other hand, have batted magnificently but have looked ordinary with their bowler not able to contain opposition batsmen. Squad that will play today’s match will be among these. And this time also Stuart Broad will play in this match who ws rested for match against India. This match will be played under flood lights which would mean that team chasing will have some difficult time, and historicaly Chennai have been a high scoring ground and I can see another 300 runs match again. Only time will tell whether England have enough in their tank to make a comeback after a shambolik defeat in the hands of Ireland.

ICC Cricket World Cup LIVE: ENG vs SA

Both South Africa and England look anxious ahead of their ICC Cricket World Cup Group B tie on Sunday.

The past World Cup encounters between these two teams suggest little as to who is the favourite going into the match. Out of the five encounters, the Proteas have come out on top on three occasions while England have emerged victorious twice. The overall head-to-head also fails to give any definite answer. Out of the 44 ODIs, the South Africans have taken 23 games as opposed to England's 18.

The Proteas captain Graeme Smith said ahead of the match on Saturday that his side won't make the mistake of taking the English team lightly.

590226_33_preview "In this tournament, England have not been at their best but that does not make them any less threatening. We have had some great encounters in the past, and in the last couple of years they have been a better team than us. So we cannot go into the match with complacency."

"It's true their bowlers have not been doing as well as you would expect them to do but they all are top-class bowlers and can hit back any time, so we have to be cautious tomorrow," he added.

Meanwhile, England captain Andrew Strauss, following embarrassing defeat to minnows Ireland earlier this week, admitted it was high time they did well in the bowling department.

"This has been the lesson for us in the last few days. If we do not bowl well we are going to lose," he said.

"James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been our best bowlers in recent times. They have not been impressive so far but we back them to do well on Sunday," he added.

The Chidambaram Stadium's pitch has no traces of grass and is hard and dry at the same time, leading many to believe that another run-fest is in prospect.

Undefeated in their first two matches, South Africa may again go in with three spinners, a strategy that has worked wonders for them so far. Their fast-bowling, spearheaded by Dale Steyn, too has been on the button.

However, it's a different story for England. They have won just once in their three encounters and the most worrying thing for them is that their bowling is at sixes and sevens right now. There cannot be a better time than this to change all that.

England vs South Africa in ODIs/World Cup

ODIs

South Africa have won 23 and lost 18 out of 44 played (NR 2 & Tied 1) against England - winning % 55.95. For England, the winning % is 44.04.

World Cup

South Africa have won three and lost two out of five played against England. Winning % for South Africa is 60.00.

The last three games have been won by South Africa - one each in 1996, 1999 and 2007.

Overall World Cup

South Africa have won 27 and lost 13 out of 42 contested (Tied 2) - winning % 66.66.

England have won 37 and lost 23 out of 62 contested (Tied 1 NR 1) - winning % 61.47.

Approaching milestones

- Abraham de Villiers, in case of a hundred against England, would create history in ODIs as well as World Cup.

- Having posted hundreds in his previous two innings in the present competition, he would be the first to register three centuries in successive innings in the world cup in case he registers another hundred.

- Cricket history would be created in case of his hundred. Having already accomplished the feat last year by scoring 114 not out against India at Gwalior on February 24, 102 not out against India at Ahmedabad on February 27 and 102 against West Indies at North Sound on May 22, he would be the first batsman to register three successive centuries twice in ODIs.

- Jacques Kallis (929 at an average of 46.45) needs 71 runs to become the second South African to complete 1,000 runs at the world cup. Herschelle Gibbs (1067) is the only South African to register 1,000 runs at the WC.

- Ian Bell (2959) needs 41 runs to complete his 3,000 runs in ODIs.

Big Game today of ICC World Cup 2011 Group B : England vs South Africa

After Ireland’s heroics against England on Wednesday night, English team would be hoping to come over it when they meet strong South Africa who are on the top of their game and have just thrashed Netherlands to a 231 runs defeat.

England would be looking to gain the lost points against India and Ireland as West Indies have beaten Bangladesh by a huge margin which takes them on the second position in the Group B point tally with 4 points and impressive net run rate of +2.67 where England is sitting on the fourth position after playing 3 games.

On the other hand, Smith of the other hand is quite confident to get into the next round as his team performing upto the expectation, however he expressed his feelings after the Ireland win over England which was the biggest upset of the world cups so far. He said, “ I saw the game last night and didn’t sleep for an hour after that. We know Ireland can beat the big sides and it was good to see the spirit of the World Cup come alive,”

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who impressed in his debut against the West Indies, also put a good show against Netherlands would be looking to continue with his good form as he took three wickets for 19 against Dutch team with the tail-enders especially struggling to read his variations.

Amla and de Villiers are two of the best batsmen in the world and and batting very well. England bowlers would not want to work in bowling department as as South African batsmen are in top form which makes their team probably the strongest and most balanced side in the competition. De Villiers’s after his second successive hundred against Netherlands would be keen to cash in on his good form.

England team would require Kevin Pietersen to stay longer on the crease because if he stays for 40 overs mammoth score is guaranteed and along with that Strauss would be hoping their bowlers to get into the rhythm specially James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

The win over Michigan State and they now have a ticket heading to the Big Ten Tournament 2011. Currently there is no official 2011 Big Ten Tournament schedule. As the tournament getting close it seems Ohio State is now the the apple of the eye and they were also the #1 team in the league.

Big Ten Tournament 2011 Predictions Update

(Media-Newswire.com) - The Big Ten Tournament for 2011 just got a jolt before the March Madness event with the stunning upset in the Iowa vs. Purdue game which saw the unranked Iowa squad beat the number six ranked Purdue team today.  The Big Ten Tournament for 2011 now has taken turn.

Purdue was led by JaJuan Johnson with 22 points in the game but it was the team's poor three point shooting that caused their fall as they only managed five of twenty five shooting from outside the circle.  The field shooting was a paltry 36.2% which enabled the Hawkeyes to win.

Iowa was led by Jarryd Cole who put in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Bryce Cartwright along with Matt Gatens also added 13 points each for the win.

The win by Iowa puts their NCAA top seed possibility in jeopardy with the loss dropping them to 25-6 for the year.
